This fully renovated modern home was once a one storey detached bungalow: the existing foundations and masonry walls were kept and re-clad with stone, wood and stucco. The existing structure was maintained to keep the construction budget low. Floor area was increased through the additions to the side, rear and the second storey. New mechanical systems, insulation, windows and membranes dramatically improved the efficiency and performance of the solid masonry home.
The interior features open concept floor space along the main floor and bedrooms arranged around a brightly lit central atrium on the second floor. The new open-riser central staircase doubles as a light well and creates a point of reference within the home.
